This is the oldest water purification method. It is one of the methods you can trust will give you high quality water. In the method, one heats water to the point of boiling, causing vapors to rise to condenser. In the condenser, the cooling water reduces boiling temperature so as to ensure that vapor is properly collected and stored well after condensation. The benefit of this water purification method is that it will eliminate many contaminants and can be reused. Its disadvantage is that some contaminants can be carried forward in the process and thus extensive maintenance must be done if purity is to be assured. Ion Exchange

This water purification method works by percolation of water through a sphere shaped resin material. It is given this name ‘Ion Exchnage’ for the reason that there is exchange of ions with replacement ions, fixed to beads. Softening and de-ionization are the two methods of ion exchange. In de-ionization, beads the beads exchange ions with cations or hydroxyl ions. In softening, this is basically pre-treatment which is aimed at reducing water hardness before application of the process of Reverse Osmosis (RO). The process of ion exchange has the advantage in that it dissolves inorganicmaterialseffectively and can regenerate as well. However, it does not work well in getting rid of bacteria, pyrogens and some other hazardous particles from water.

Carbon Filtration

This is a very popular technique which is used for filter treatment of domestic drinking water. This is because it is capable of purifying water by elimination of degrading tastes and odor including chlorine. It’s a fact that activated carbon is very vital in the removal of chemicals and gases from water and is quite effective against various microorganisms. Not all systems of carbon filtering can ideally perform this technique. However, there are some few which can be effective in removal of asbestos, lead, cysts and coliform. The greatest advantage of this water purification technique is its ability of eliminating dissolved organics and chlorine very well. It however has the disadvantage that it can produce carbon fines.

Microporous basic filtration

This is a water purification procedure which involves three major micro porous type filtration, including surface, depth and screen. Screen filters have uniform structure such as sieve. The depth filters are basically matted fibers, which are then compressed to form matrix like structure which can retain particles through adsorption or random entrapment. Generation of surface filters occurs from a wide range different media layers so as to form a matrix. Particles which are bigger than these spaces are filtered then the remainder passes through. This water purification method is suitable to removal of pyrogens and microorganism. However, it has limitations when it comes to dissolve inorganic compounds removal.
